Is the voice recorder free?
Yes. There is no signup, no watermark, and no paid tier. Recordings are made and saved on your device.
What format are recordings saved in?
Chrome, Edge, and Safari usually record M4A (AAC audio), which plays on phones and computers; Firefox records WebM. Save as MP3 or WAV converts the recording in your browser, and a WebM recording can be saved as M4A too.
How do I record audio to MP3?
Record, press Stop, then press Save as MP3. The converter downloads once (about 30 MB) and runs on your device, so the recording is still never uploaded.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes, in Safari on iPhone and iPad and in Chrome on Android. Keep the screen on and this tab open while recording, because a locked phone can cut off the microphone.
Why is my recording silent?
The browser may be using a different or muted microphone. The Microphone Test shows which mic is picked up and whether it hears you, and once access is allowed you can choose another microphone here.
Is there a time limit?
No. The recording is held in your browser until you download it, so very long takes depend on your device's free memory. Download long recordings before closing the tab.
Is my recording uploaded anywhere?
No. It is recorded, played back, and converted in your browser, and saved straight to your device.
