Microphone test questions
How do I know if my mic is working?
Press Test microphone and speak. If the wave moves and the check says your microphone is working, it is. If nothing moves after a few seconds, the check points to the likely cause.
Why is my microphone not working?
Usually one of four things: the site was not allowed to use it, the operating system blocks the browser, the mic is muted, or a different input is selected. The troubleshooting tips cover each one.
What is a good microphone level?
When you talk normally, the level bar should sit in the green and touch amber on louder words. Red means your voice is clipping, so move back or lower the input volume. A bar that barely moves means the mic is too quiet.
Is the test recorded or uploaded?
The live check only measures loudness and saves nothing. The 5-second sample is recorded in your browser to play back to you, and it never leaves your device.
Can I test a headset or USB microphone?
Yes. After allowing access, choose it from the Microphone list. Bluetooth headsets switch to a lower-quality call mode while their mic is in use, which is normal.
